Booking a flight can sometimes feel needlessly complicated. After all, you just want to make sure you’re as comfortable as possible, and I think we can agree: not all seats are created equal.

But we’re not just talking about the difference between coach and first-class.

If you’re a little bit picky about where you sit (no judgment, we’re the same), it’s nice when the seat you THINK you’re booking is the same one you actually get.

That’s where SeatGuru comes in.

Whether you’re looking for a recliner or a window seat, one that’s close to the doors or as far away from the bathrooms as possible, SeatGuru helps by offering up intel from thousands of real world travelers to help you snag the seat that works for you.

What is SeatGuru?

SeatGuru is a website that aggregates publicly available information about the different seating options on different airplanes, and the amenities included on each flight (e.g. wifi, charging, service, etc.) Their goal is to help you select the best seat on any flight.

The site has been around since 2001 and was acquired by Tripadvisor in 2007.

As you might expect from a Tripadvisor backed site, the website also displays reviews from actual customers, in addition to their extensive collection of regularly updated seat maps.

Now let’s look at how you can actually use SeatGuru to find the perfect place to plop on the plane.

How Do SeatGuru Seat Maps Work?

To find the seat map for your flight, head over to SeatGuru and type in your airline, date of flight, and flight number.

Once you’ve plugged in the information, SeatGuru’ll bring up a map of the seats on your plane.

You’ll also see that some seats have different colored highlights which indicate there is special information (good or bad) that you should take into consideration.

All you have to do is to hover over the various seats to find out all the information you might want to know about it. This includes how well the seat reclines, how close it is to the bathroom, whether or not you have access to the window, etc.

Don’t worry about remembering the details – there’s a color key to help you decide what’s the best option for you.

Discover Your Amenities

Showing you the best seats is not the only thing that SeatGuru shows you. Do you want to know whether or not your flight has power? If the seat reclines? If there’s WI-FI?

SeatGuru has you covered.

In many cases, you’ll even be able to see what the television screen options are for any particular seat!
